Memoria Gráfica
Curatorial platform / DJ sets / Vinyl sessions / Events / ExhibitionsThe graphic component of musical productions (whether albums or singles) has been closely linked to their sound identity in the public's memory. We remember songs and records for their sound, but also for their graphic art. In fact, on many occasions our visual memory is the first to appear when we want to remember a piece of music.
This exhibition shows representative examples of the graphic aspect in the musical production of the independent scene in Colombia for the last two decades. And it intends to generate a link from Catalonia to its creators and the sounds that they wanted to represent in images.
Two decades of Colombian independent music have produced some of the most remarkable graphic work in Latin America — record covers, single artwork, visual identities built by designers and musicians working in close collaboration, mostly known through social media and mostly invisible to European audiences. Memoria Gráfica was conceived to change that.
The exhibition presents a selection of representative album and single covers from Colombia’s independent scene — objects that document how a generation of artists and designers worked together to give their music a visual identity outside the mainstream. Curated, directed, designed, and produced by La Murga Visual, the first edition was held at Centro Cultural Albareda in Poble-sec, Barcelona. Among the designers and artists featured: Yoda, Raquel Sofía Moreno, Sakoasko, Mateo Rivano, Jose Berrio, Daniel Gavilán, Alejandra Bonnet, Angelica Liv, Mateo Correal, Santiago Ayerbe, Saga Uno, Marian Orjuela, N. Hardem, and La Murga Visual.
A local initiative in Barcelona — with an eye on something much larger.
Memoria Sónica
The exhibition opened with a session. Memoria Sónica is a vinyl journey through a world in a permanent process of decolonisation — music as collective memory, dance as collective therapy, the needle on the record as a way of tracing where sounds come from and where they are going.
